AFS Meeting May 14 - Location Changed

Sorry this is happening again, but another conflict has forced us to move our meeting. All this info is verbatim from the last email except the location has changed.

The final traditional AFS meeting of the year will be Wednesday, May 14 at 5:30 PM at Rixt Miedema’s house. As always, please bring a covered dish to share.

Directions have been removed for the web. If you still need them, call the Miedemas at (740) 420-0029.

Nominations and elections of next year’s officers will take place at the meeting. Because we’ll have a new adviser, we need responsible and competent officers who are devoted to the club. There are six positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Correspondence Secretary, Treasurer, and Head Photographer. Details on officer responsibilities are attached. All professing members present (including seniors and exchange students) may vote.

The election process will be as follows. Up to four nominees will be listed for President. We will then vote on President. The remaining three nominees may then run for Vice President if they choose to do so. Additional nominees for that position will then be added, but we will have no more than four. We will then vote on Vice President. We will vote on the two Secretary positions at the same time. The highest vote-getter will have their pick of Secretary or Correspondence Secretary, and the second-higher vote-getter will get the remaining role. We will then nominate and vote for Treasurer and Head Photographer (separately). Anyone not elected may be designated as Photographer at that time.

The final exchange student presentations will finish the evening. Iwao will present on Japan, and Janey & Patch will present on Thailand.

The AFS Celebration Dinner will be May 20. All AFS members and their families are invited.

AFS - Play May 7

Just three AFS events are left for this year. Please read the following carefully so you don’t miss out on any of them.

All AFS members and their families are invited to attend a dress rehearsal of Grease on Wednesday, May 7 at Round Town Players, 165 1/2 East Main Street. RTP is across from Community UM Church, CVS Pharmacy, and US Bank. Please arrive at 7:15 PM so that we can organize a club photo before the performance begins, and wear your AFS T-shirts. Many scheduling conflicts have delayed our photo. This will be the official one that we use. If at all possible, please try to attend so that you can be forever remembered as a part of this club.

As many of you know, this is Mrs. Campbell’s final year as our AFS adviser. It’s been very difficult to find an adviser, so everyone should be thinking seriously about who would make a good adviser. Preferably, we would find a CHS teacher; however, someone outside of the school system will also be OK. Please ask anyone who you think would make a good adviser if they would be interested in the position. That is vital to our club’s future.

Nominations and elections of next year’s officers will take place at our final traditional meeting—May 14. Iwao and Janey will also wrap up our exchange student presentations. If you would like to host this meeting, let me know.

The AFS Celebration Dinner will be May 20. We hope all exchange students and their host families can attend. Of course, more details will follow but please mark your calendars. This will be the final club event of the year unless we do something else in June. The AFS Celebration Committee (Maria Richards, Rixt Miedema, Ashley Bivens, advisers & president) should be scheduling the meeting to plan for this ASAP.

All the best,
Michael Locklear
